Tuesday Tunes

I thought I'd take this moment, as I travel home on the train to post about my latest musical musings. Songs that I currently can't get enough of. Some older, but mostly recent or that at least aren't much older than a couple years. And since I love them all for different reasons, please note that these are listed in no particular order. Enjoy, and let me know what you think!

Family of the Year-Hero

I'm probably a bit late at discovering this band, but am glad they have found a way into my life. This is the kind of music that makes me want to escape the world and get lost in my artwork. Love the lyrics, the tone, and the tune. I think I'm in love.

Sebastian Bach-Tunnelvision

Way to keep the glam/hair movement alive, Sebastian. If I didn't know any better, I'd say this song was released in the 80's. LOVE the falsetto at 1:23, it is most excellent! If you know me at all, you know I am a sucker for a man who can belt it out and hit them high notes.

Erasure-Chains of Love

I have an obsession with 80's music (both rock and pop), and this is my current 80's love affair. As already mentioned, I've always been a huge fan of that man who hits those high notes and sings a mean falsetto (probably a huge reason I'm such an MJ fan). This song is all around great to run to, drive to, clean to, and sing to, and just puts me in an overall good mood.

Awolnation-Knights of Shame

The past several months, "Kill Your Heroes" has been on replay, but now it's this one. You know how some songs grab you with the very first note? Yep, that's this song. I cannot get enough of this song lately! I went running to it the other day, and for someone who hates running, it really pumped me up, and helped me to keep on trucking. It reminds me of Bohemian Rhapsody, in the sense that it's fabulous from start to finish, and has several different climactic buildups.  I always find myself getting excited for the next part coming up. And of course, there's the falsetto that I love so much, along with the hip hop beat that makes you want to conquer the world.

It's a long song, so it's perfect for someone like me who only wants to run one mile. I tell myself, "You only have to run to one song, and then you're done!"

Also, I cannot stress this enough. If you are an Awolnation fan, do yourself a favor and look up Under the Influence of Giants. They were my favorite band my junior year of college (2006). The lead singer was the same singer in Awolnation, and their style is basically the same as Awol, just 1/2 a decade earlier. I always said UTIOG was before their time, so it's cool that Aaron Bruno came out with a new band that received recognition.

Justin Timberlake-Mirrors

It's Justin Timberlake. Sexy falsetto. Need I say more? :)

Matt Pond-Love to Get Used

Just discovered this song, and this guy for that matter, a few weeks ago. Shame on me, as it would appear he has been around for awhile.... I must admit, I'm hooked and he made an insta-fan out of me. I listen to this song, and it just makes me happy/giddy.

Imagine Dragons-Tiptoe

Addicted to this band, and pretty much every song they've ever recorded. At least a dozen of their songs have been a favorite replay of mine at some time or another. Last spring was "It's Time", "Radioactive",  "Top of the World", "Demons" and "Pantomime". Halloween through January was "Hear Me", and lately all I want to do is listen to "Tiptoe".  Let's just hope Imagine Dragons keep coming up with material I'm obsessed with. Vance and I are going to their concert in May, and I am soooo excited.

One Republic-Counting Stars

It's safe to say ever since "Apologize" came out, I have been hooked. A One Republic addict, if you will. Every album has been a masterpiece, and their latest is no exception. I know you'll love it too, if you don't already :)

Of Monsters and Men-Dirty Paws

This song is my lullaby. When I listen to it, I like to close my eyes and picture the story being told. If the band ever approached me and asked if I would illustrate a book to go along with the words to their song, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Wombats-1996

I adore songs about nostalgia, and even though this story wasn't my life in 1996 (as I was still in elementary school at the time), I can easily relate. I remember being a teenager, feeling invincible and fearless. Seeking endless opportunities with no real grasp on reality. Falling in love, or lust, for that matter.  Having the raging emotions and crazy experiences you only get in your younger years. Though I LOVE my life, and live in the now, I wouldn't be human if I didn't ever get a little homesick thinking about the past, and that is what this song means to me.

Ed Sheeran-Lego House

And last but not least, just for funsies because he has a good voice, and the video stars Ronald Weasely (Rupert Grint), this one has been added to my current playlist. Thanks for showing me this Ali!

Thanks for letting me share, and ramble about my current loves. There are plenty more songs I could list, but for the sake of time (and lack of energy at this point in the day), I'll call it good. Until next time!

  1. Well, You married the right guy. When we were growing up, he would drag me out to his beat up mitsubishi to listen to metallica, afi, thursday, and other various 80s hair bands because the sound system was better out in the car than up in his room.

Jealous of Imagine Dragons fix :)
